Long ago, ancient myths and legends around the world were reality, sustained by mortal belief. As time passed, they slowly became forgotten and they became all but pure fantasy. Without faith and worship, the old deities from most pantheons could no longer directly influence the mortal realm.
Without the presence of deities, science and logical thought prevailed. However, deities still found a way to mark their influence on mortals – via demigods, half mortal, half god beings. These demigods live within mortal society. With modern technology came the globalisation of mythologies from all around the world. Demigods from different pantheons have mingled with each other and have generally found acceptance living in coexistence.
Unfortunately, monsters - both benevolent and evil - never left the mortal realm. Their strength was also dependent on mortal belief, however, demigods with full knowledge of their fantastical origins were preyed on by the more malevolent of monsters. Thus, to protect their children, deities from different pantheons worked together to construct a plane of existence separate from the mortal world, where demigods could live in relative safety. This plane became known as Lemuria.
Within Lemuria, regions and cities were built, each with their respective pantheon. Good and neutral-aligned monsters were also free to frequent within this plane, so long as they did not mean harm to demigods. Evil monsters still found methods to slip into Lemuria, however most of them were either chased into remote uninhabited areas or out of the plain entirely.
It is 2014 and is the dawn of a new era. A Great Prophecy has appeared and repeated all around in the world in all pantheons, whether it be by oracles, seers, völvas, scryers or diviners.
Oh My Gods is a mythology roleplay that draws from ancient pantheons and places them in a modernised context. It is inspired by Rick Riordan's 'Heroes of Olympus', however knowledge of the series is not required.
Tl:dr; Ancient mythologies and pantheons exist. Because deities could not influence the mortal realm, they created demigods (half mortal, half god). Because demigods were terrorised by monsters, the deities created a plane, Lemuria, which was separate from the mortal realm and hence the monsters.

A new era comes with the dawn of light,
Where all pantheons must come forth to unite.
In tainted sacrifice and bloodstained blasphemy,
All halfbloods will submit to agony.
On black moon's eve, comes a monster none will defeat,
And all will still an immortal heartbeat.
