"August 7th, 9:30 PM
I am somewhat dumbfounded on how to explain what I just saw. For days now we have been trying to open the entry to what has been proclaimed to be a temple raised in the name of Bastet, the Goddess of Cats and Protection. Among injuries and the local workers talking about a curse, we've found ourselves in a bigger twist on how to explain this. Just as we were about to give up on opening the tomb, the entry rock simply cracked and opened. Mind you we used dynamite not so earlier during the day but this is just... It doesn't even begin to explain what we saw.
Just as the door opened a black little shadow came walking down the hall, as if a host walking to the door of their house to greet visitors. My colleagues and I were a bit shocked as we saw a cat, black as night with brilliant amber eyes just sit at the entrance and let out a meow. A cat was in this place? Was there another entry? We're going to check things but from what we could see there was nothing that could represent the place being messed with.
What happened next even made the locals become more curious as the cat got up and meow'd, as if indicating for us to follow it inside, as if it wanted to show us something. We followed it, about six of us down a series of maze like halls, making sure to map the way we were going so we could return until we reached a large clearing. The inside of this place... Didn't even seem to be phased by time. We saw a stone table and a chair and on it? A baby bed.
It seemed like someone might have been living here for a while with a child, somehow managing to come in here... But if so... Why was the richness of the temple left intact? The artifacts were still there. Curiosity took the best of me as I walked closer to the table, only to see a small arm reach out for me. Bright amber eyes looked into mine as we found a living baby in the bed... We all made sure we took her out of there and for some odd reason that black came came with. Its likely that the cat was working a surrogate mother of sorts? Who would leave their child in such a place? Why would they do such a thing? Currently the infant is with my wife. I'll record another tape once we know more on the subject. Signing off for now, Professor Ian McCallen"
The tape is replaced with another, numbered tape 217
"Its been a week since it happened. My wife was surprised when the infant showed no signs of nourishment or of ill health, so we still haven't quite made sense of the situation. We asked around the nearby village about the girl, if anybody knew her or who she belonged to, but nobody answered, or they just seemed too scared to even want to mess with it. And yet again we sit here with what seems a two month old infant with nowhere to belong. My wife has suggested adopting the infant. While I'm not against the idea, is it wise? We've never had children of our own, but not for the lack of trying... Maybe I should agree, I know that my wife has wanted to have a child for a very long time. I must ponder on this."
Tape 365
"We were about to leave to England with the infant when she started to cry immensely. Seemed odd since she was always calm as calm can be. And that's when we noticed that cat... The same cat that had led us to her sitting on the windowsill patting at the glass. We let it in and it went over to the child's crib, sitting down next to her. My wife and I were amazed when she stopped crying and looked at the cat. It was as if the cat had a connection with Zahrah. We've decided to take it to the vet here and then take it back home with us."
The tapes finish here but then you catch eye of a written journal as well. Fiddling through the pages, you find the page that is not long after the return to England
"Zahrah and Bassie are inseperable. I've never seen a cat be this calm around an infant, and that's saying something. Today I found Zahrah asleep on the couch and Bassie sprawled over her like a cat blanket. Its interesting yet... a bit odd. We've decided to keep the circumstances of Zahrah's discovery a secret from many. And here's hoping it aids us."
You turn a bunch of pages, skipping about five years worth of time and begin to read once more
"Zahrah is a wonderful child, yet at times Elisa and I find her doing rather odd things for a child so young. The other day we found her doing what would seem a tightrope impersonation on the balcony fence. But she's not even tall enough to get up there on her own! Is Elisa trying to play a stupid trick on me? Or one of the staff? I might just be getting paranoid, just like those odd dreams i've been getting."
Skipping another set of pages, you find yourself at the eighteenth year mark of your birthday
"...We decided to take Zahrah back to where she was found for her birthday. But my wife and myself went ahead so we could see to things. However when we got there we found the village in the area in a mess, the village had been attacked not too long ago, the population had been completely wiped and nobody was around to verify what happened. Something tells me there's something to this. The crew are going into the tomb first thing in the morning."
One last page turn, you find it soaked in blood and dirt and your father's handwriting is barely recognizable.
"Monsters! They killed everybody, including my beloved Elisa! Whoever finds this, show this to Zahrah, tell her to never come here again! Tell her i love he-" the writing stops into a long ling and a splatter of blood
Your fingers tap the parchment as you slowly close the diary and stuff it into your courier bag. Bright eyes glance around beneath the hood of your cowl before a meow catches your attention. Next to yo, the black cat that has always been your companion sits, trying to get your attention as the sands flutter in air. Its been almost a year since the incident and you're about to step foot into that tomb, unknowing what might happen to you. But something, or someone seems to tell you its alright.... It will all be alright after this.
And... You were right.
Bassie the Cat (Tier 1)
Bassie the cat has been with Zahrah for as long as she can remember. A black cat with bright amber eyes, Zahrah sees the cat as her best and only true friend in the entire world. With a cat like personality its incredibly loyal to Zahrah and protective of her, almost as if a mother cat would be. Always around the female, this cat and Zahrah communicate in a innate nature. Bassie is more of a quick messenger/scout companion at the present time.
Feline Physiology (Tier 1)
Zahrah's senses and sense of balance are much like a cats. She can hear sounds better, see in the dark and pick up scents more easily. That being said she's also known for pulling some crazy stunts thanks to the ways she can maintain her balance. Like the old saying says, a cat always lands on their feet. At the current tier, Zahrah has good night vision, a sensitive sense of smell and hearing and she's as agile as a trained gymnast.
Bastet's Gift (Tier 1)
Descending from the Cat Goddess, Zahrah has the ability to turn parts of her into part feline traits so it can help her in a pinch. While its something she doesn't use often, its also not something one will catch her using most if not all the times. at the current tier all that she can do is turn her hand's nails into long sharp claws, primarily using such for self defense.
